Tour to Khao Yai: Hiking in a Real Jungle (for expats!)

Khao Yai is the third largest national park in Thailand, home to more than 3,000 species of plants, 320 of birds, and 66 of mammals, including elephants, deer, porcupines, bears, macaques, monitor lizards, and 18 tigers. Obviously, tigers are practically impossible to see but you can sometimes see elephants (although it is not easy). The most easily seen mammals are deer, macaques and monitor lizards. Khao Yai National Park is located around 3 hours by road from Bangkok, making it possible to visit it in one day. The park is guarded and maintained by the rangers, the park police. You can’t build or hunt in Thai national parks.

The hiking time can be adapted according the the profile of the clients.

? Encounter with a crocodile and a bear

In our last trip to Khao Yai we encounter a huge crocodile during a hiking. This is something very unusual. It was resting near by the river of one of the most popular trails and when it heard us, he rushed into the water. It was a thrilling moment. Unfortunately we had no time for pictures.

We a also ran across a small bear when we were driving around the park. We do have a picture of the moment:
